She got her inspiration from her father ‘Sam Rutherford’ who is also a pilot and originally belongs from England. On the other side, Zara’s mother Beatrice De Smet is also an aircraft pilot.

She rose to international fame after it was revealed that she is attempting to become the youngest female pilot who will fly across the world all alone. This announcement was made in August 2021. Rutherford started her journey on August 18, 2021. She was expected to launch her journey one week before but due to some problems, she was not able to do so.

I’m very sorry to say that my launch has been delayed by one week (18/08/2021). This is to implement an improved camera system in and around the airplane to get as much high-quality footage as possible.

She is flying from Kortrijk and her due date to end her journey is November 4, 2021. Back in September 2020, she qualified to get the license for a pilot. The license was issued by Direction Générale de l’Aviation Civile in France.

As of now, this record is held by an American pilot named Shaesta Waiz who fly in the year 2017. In order to do so, Zara Rutherford underwent intense training. At the age of 14, she took her first lesson. She even received her lesson for dunker training in which a pilot has to know how to handle his/her plane under the water.
