After 9/11, he, like many others, felt compelled to serve and enlisted in the US Marine Corps in June 2002 before joining para ice hockey.
Ralph changed his specialization to Explosive Ordinance Disposal in 2005. He would be posted to several bases and deployed multiple times over the following few years.

Ralph found sledge hockey and is now a part of the United States 2018 National Paralympic Team, which will compete in the 2018 Paralympic Games in South Korea.
